Session 3:
Act boldly for peace
Many stories in the Bible tell of women
who acted boldly against their leaders
in favor of GodŐs commandments. Think
about how Rahab felt when she hid the
two spies from her king. We have similar
stories today of brave, peaceful women
acting beyond their comfort levels. The
monastic Rule
of Benedict is
another example
of how our faith
calls us to be a peaceful presence in the
world so the world can be a more peaceful
place because of us.

First Lutheran Church Women (FLCW)
Statement of Purpose
As a community of women
created in the image of God,
called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and
empowered by the Holy Spirit,
We commit ourselves to
grow in faith,
affirm our gifts,
support one another in our callings,
engage in ministry and action, and
promote healing and wholeness
in the church, the society, and the world.
Activities
The three circles, Deborah, Ruth, and Sarah meet monthly for bible
study and fellowship from September through June. Location varies,
so if your are interested in Bible Study and would like to join,
contact the Circle leader prior to the meeting date.
Workshops
Workshop continues to meet the third Tuesday of each month, with
a summer break in July and August. Workshop workers make both children’s
and adult quilts, which are given to Packard Children’s Hospital,
Urban Ministry of Palo Alto, and Ecumenical Hunger Program. We also
continue to collect cancelled stamps and Campbell's "Labels
for Education" to send to Mosaic
(a merger between Bethphage and Martin Luther Homes). They collect
them from all over the country, and are able to redeem them for
needed supplies. You can help us by saving your cancelled stamps
and labels and placing them in the FLCW collection box in the Parish
Hall each week.
Benevolences
Through the generosity of the congregation and our annual pie sale,
which takes place each October, we raise funds that enable us to
contribute to Mosaic, Christmas Bureau of Palo Alto, Ecumenical
Hunger Program, Friends Outside, Lutheran Social Services, the Palo
Alto Weekly Holiday Fund, and W-ELCA, the national women's organization
of the ELCA.
Each December the FLCW sponsors the annual Smörgåsbord/Santa
Lucia program.
